The Garden County-Bayard football game scheduled in Bayard this evening has been cancelled due to fears of the spread of a type of staph infection that has occurred at Garden County.

Garden County Athletic Director Jason Spady says in a letter to the football team and parents that the Bayard High Administration contacted the Nebraska State Activities Association and the Garden County officials and decided it is not in the best interest of Bayard schools to continue with the game.

Spady says in the letter posted on the school district website that Garden County School officials will keep the public posted on new developments and the status of the state playoffs.

Spady says in the letter "our concerns remain with the health and well being of our students and the students of other communities.”

Spady concluded "please know this is a decision difficult for both Bayard and Garden County Schools."
