The City of Alliance Water Department has begun chlorinating the city’s water system.

City Water Superintendent Mike Huulquist says routine water samples have revealed the positive presence of coliform bacteria. Hulquist says the maintenance chlorination will last seven to ten days.

Hulquist says the chlorination is not an emergency, but a routine procedure He says the coliform was found in more samples than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems.

No fecal, or e-coli, was found.
