Carrie J. Schrum, 76, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1931 in Waterloo, Nebraska to Glenn and Alvena (Seeker) Payne.
On August 22, 1953 she was united in marriage to Edwin H. Schrum in Millard, NE.
She worked for the Bank of Millard as a supervisor before retiring. They moved to Alliance in 1992 following their retirement. She founded the American Legion Auxiliary in Millard and served as the first president of that organization. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, a volunteer for the Box Butte General Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Her survivors include her son Brad and wife Brenda Schrum, daughter Gail and husband Tom Burke all of Alliance, grandchildren Kevin and Lyndsey Schrum of Lincoln, Kody Schrum and Shelbee Burke of Alliance, her brother Nick Payne of Omaha, sister Dolores Pointer of CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 brothers.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Lutheran Church in Alliance with Reverend Larry Spomer officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Cheyenne, Alliance, NE 69301 or to the Nebraska Children’s Home at Nebraska Children’s Home Society Foundation, 4939 S. 118th Street, Omaha, NE 68137.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
