  Elena V. Flores, 86, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born August 10, 1921 in El Paso, Texas to Guillermo and Juanita (Garcia) Vargas. Her family moved to Alliance in her early childhood and she attended Alliance schools.

On February 12, 1938 she was united in marriage to Dionicio A. Flores in Sidney, NE.

Her survivors are her children, Juanita Mendoza of Alliance, Anita Vela of Corpus Christi, TX; Lupe (Frank) Cox, Polly (John) Magdaleno, Art (Dixie) Flores of Alliance, Margo Parks of Wichita, KS; Bertha (Jess) Maldonado of Evans, CO; Tom (Deb) Flores of Broomfield, CO; Dan (Connie) Flores of Highlands Ranch, CO; Sally (Dee) Cervantes of Fort Collins, CO; John (Nancy) Flores, Carmen (Neil) Backous of Alliance; Gloria (Mike) Kelly of Erie, CO; Grace (Mike) Brisby of Alliance; Mario (Brenda) Flores of Loveland, CO and Norberto (Becky) Flores of Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, Ernesto Vargas, Ernestine Camarillo, Irene Hayes and Manuel Vargas all of Pueblo, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Jesse Vargas, sister Pat Gonzales and great-grandson Michael Magdaleno.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was active in the Altar Society and Guadalupe Club, and was a past-president of the Demolay’s Mothers Club.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church with Father James Heithoff officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A wake service will be Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials may be given to Prairie Haven Hospice, Nebraska Boys Ranch or to Holy Rosary Church.

Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
