Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Thompson, 82, died Monday, September 17, 2007 at Box Butte General Hospital.
She was born on May 14, 1925 in Edgemont, SD to William and Esther (Crum) Rounds.
On November 14, 1941 in Edgemont she was united in marriage to Carl A. Thompson.
An over 60 year resident of Alliance, Betty worked as a hair dresser for 35 years. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, was a past president of the Eagles Auxiliary, and B.P.O. Does. She also was active in the Rebekah’s, Good Sam Camping Club and Burlington Northern Camping Club and Red Hat Society.
For 23 years Betty was the director of the Alliance Nutrition Center and the founder of the “Swingin’ Senior’s” singing group. In 2005 Betty was names “Person of the Year” by the Alliance Times-Herald.
Her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law Randy and Patty Thompson of Sheridan, WY and her daughter Penny Thompson of Alliance. She is also survived by her grandchildren Travis Thompson of Seattle, WA, USN; Troy Thompson and Trevor Thompson of Sheridan, WY; and great-grandchildren Alexis, Felicia and Brennen.
Memorial services will be Friday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with Father Don Huber officiating. Inurnment will be in the Alliance Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
