RAPID CITY, S.D. – Chadron State’s Bridgette Boswell, Lindsy Heisler and Lauren Emory combined for 40 kills but it wasn’t enough to lift the Eagles to victory as they fell in five games to South Dakota School of Mines 30-21, 30-25, 24-30, 25-30, 15-9 Tuesday in Rapid City.

Heisler, a freshman, led CSC with 16 kills. Lauren Emory hit 14 kills and posted a hitting percentage of .211, and Boswell added 10 kills. Jamie O’Brien also had a good showing offensively as she finished with nine kills.
Although the Eagles posted big offensive numbers – they accounted for 59 total kills, 220 total attacks, Jamie Weingart finished with 48 set assists, and Amie McCracken served three aces – it was the Hardrockers’ defense that proved to be the difference. For the match, SDSM finished with 10 blocks, while limiting CSC to three.

The Hardrockers also finished with 109 total digs, led by Jenny Hiykel’s match-high 42.

Jennifer Luatua led the Eagles with 36 digs and Weingart added 15 more. Anna Jackson also played nicely in the back row by finishing with 14 digs.

The five-game match was only the third time this season SDSM has been forced to go the distance. But the Hardrockers are 2-1 in those matches and own a 10-1 record on the season.

The Eagles, now 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will look to bounce back against a pair of Colorado schools this weekend. On Friday, the Eagles will play at Regis University and Saturday they’ll be at Colorado-Colorado Springs. Both conference matches begin at 7 p.m.
