(AP) - The Legislature's Agriculture Committee is holding public hearings this week on the implications of losing the state's anti-corporate farming law known as Initiative 300.

The Legislature's interim study will examine the impact on production agriculture resulting from court decisions last year that ruled the 25-year-old law is unconstitutional.

Chuck Hassebrook is executive director for the Center for Rural Affairs in Lyons. He told the committee in Norfolk Monday that there are ways lawmakers can write legislation that would have a similar effect to the ban within the bounds of the court rulings.

Seven of the eight members of the Ag Committee attended Monday's hearing. They will hear more testimony on the ban at other hearings in Lincoln and Scottsbluff.

The Scottsbluff hearing will be held Thursday, Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn on West Highway 26.
