  The Box Butte County Fair in Hemingford kicks off this Saturday with the annual 4-H Horse Show, followed by a bevy of activities through August 12.

One of the larger attractions each year is the Fair Queen Contest.

This year’s contest will include 10 young ladies, and they include:

Brittany Anthony, 17, Alliance
Blake Becker, 17, Alliance
Melissa Cervantes, 18, Hemingford
Kyren Conley, 18, Alliance
Lyndlee Crawford, 17, Alliance
Kelsey Forgey, 18, Hemingford
Faith Furrow, 16, Alliance
Tarrah Johnson, 18, Alliance
Katrina Mundt, 18, Hemingford
Kirsten Swanson, 16, Alliance

The Queen contest will be held Thursday, August 9th at 8 p.m. at the grandstand.

The queen and her court will be awarded scholarships.

The young woman named Queen will receive a $850 scholarship, with the 1st Attendant receiving $400. The 2nd Attendant will receive a $300 scholarship, with Miss Congeniality receiving a $200 scholarship.

This will be the largest scholarship awarded to the Queen in the history of the contest. McDonalds of Alliance and Chadron will provide an additional $250 scholarship to the young lady chosen as Queen, on top of the $600 that was previously announced.

Gina Jespersen of Hemingford has reigned as queen the past year.
