OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Triple-A Nebraska spokeswoman Rose White says flooding at a southeast Kansas oil refinery this month is the main culprit for the surge in gas prices.
Nebraska has the highest gas price in the nation today at three dollars and 33 cents for a gallon of regular unleaded.
White said the Kansas refinery has been shut down since the
flooding, and it's not clear when it will reopen. Before the flooding, the Coffeyville Resources refinery was responsible for about one-seventh of the refining capacity for the Great Plains. It produced 108-thousand barrels per day of gasoline, diesel and other fuel oils.
White says she hopes prices have topped out. But she warns
prices probably won't drop until the Coffeyville refinery resumes production.
