The deadline is July 27th for The 2007 Box Butte County Fair’s Queen Contest. The theme is “Once Upon a Fair,” — and those registering to be one of a dozen queen contestants vying for the coveted crown will have Cinderella memories by taking part. Oh, and $1,500 in scholarships will be awarded. The Box Butte County Fair Queen Committee is now accepting applications for the 82nd Box Butte County Fair, according to Committee Chairperson Kay Specht. She said the Queen Contest decorations will have a Cinderella theme, with contestants even arriving by carriage.

The committee reminds contestants that the scholarships given the four talented women chosen this year will take a significant bite out of college expenses.

The young woman named Queen will receive a $600 scholarship, with the 1st Attendant receiving $400. The 2nd Attendant will receive a $300 scholarship, with Miss Congeniality receiving a $200 scholarship.

The contest is limited to the first 12 entrants to register, so, sign up now using the registration form appearing at the end of this story, or from the Fair’s web page: www.bbc.net/bbcfair.

The Hemingford Ledger will also have it in each of the next two editions, as well as on its web page at www.ledgeronline.com. Those interested can also call the fair office at 487-5223 and request that a form be faxed. The form will also appear in the Alliance Times-Herald.Deadline to register is Friday, July 27, at 5 p.m. The entry fee is $25 and must be enclosed with the entry form. Entry forms and resumé must be delivered, in person, at the Fair Office in Hemingford. They cannot be mailed.

“If you sign up now, and do not wait until the last minute, this will give you more time to get a wardrobe lined up and will let you polish your talents for the contest,” Specht said. “That is so much less stressful than rushing everything at the last minute.”
The contest is limited to women 16 to 20 years old. The full list of rules is posted at the Fair’s web page. The web page also has an entry form for convenience.

The Queen Contest will be held Thursday, August 9, at 8 p.m. during fair week. The royalty chosen that evening will be responsible for representing the fair for the remainder of the week, and will also be asked to attend various parades later in the year as Box Butte County Fair ambassadors.

Queen Contest corporate sponsors are: Williams Jewelers, Hemingford Ledger, PREMA, First National Bank and Gregory’s Insurance.
