(AP) - A Nebraska Wheat Board member says it's almost time to harvest, and this year's is the best he's seen in recent years.
Wheat board member Dan Hughes of western Perkins County says it looks like the best crop the state has had for five years.
He says the crop is looking to yield 35 or 40 bushels this year, rather than the average of 20 bushels.
Hughes says heavier than usual rain this spring and summer has helped the wheat not be so dry, as it has been for the past couple years. However, he says farmers are more concerned about the amount of disease that has gotten into the wheat because of more moisture.
