UNDATED (AP) - A federal report shows farmers planted 19 percent more corn this year than in 2006 -- and a big chunk of that can be found in Nebraska.
Farmers planted an estimated 92-point-9 (m) million acres of corn nationally, well above an earlier government estimate and 15 percent more than in 2005.
Nebraska corn growers planted 9-point-1 (m) million acres -- 12 percent more than last year and the largest planted area since 1936.
In other areas, Nebraska farmers planted four (m) million acres of soybeans -- down 21 percent from last year. It's the lowest figure since 1998.
State farmers also planted 2-point-1 (m) million acres of winter wheat -- 17 percent more than the previous year and the highest figure since 1996.
