The Dawes/Sioux County Fire Fund has received more than $10,000 as proceeds from a locally-produced DVD on last summer's fires that burned over 60,000 acres in the northern Panhandle.
The DVD project used local photos, video, and audio taken during the Dawes and Sioux County Fires in July and August of 2006. Organizers call it a community effort.
Spokesman JoDee Serres says private citizens and local companies submitted photos and videos, local musicians Shawn Marie, Jane Dailey, Travis Hencey and Jon Dailey recorded and mixed the original music while Outlaw Printers in Chadron donated the artwork.
Serres says organizers were amazed by how much money was raised, both through sales of the DVDs and by donations from those supporting it.
The Fire Funde is earmarking the money from the DVD for various projects, including a historical marker that is expected to be dedicated in July on the one-year anniversary of the fire.
